"The Camino de Santiago Project" is promoted by the ONCE Foundation (National organisation of visual disabled people in Spain) and wants to make the Way of St. Jame an accessible attraction. Their main purpose is to break down barriers in the French Way, the most popular route, with a program to improve the accessibility of it by, amongst other services, including a mobile application specifically desing and aimed at people with disabilities.
The avatar of the app and the project still does not have a name, and the foundation has open a votation so people can decide the name of this new character. The different options include:
- Camino.A female name that means way
- Camina. That can be translated as walk
- Jacoba. The female version of the name Jacobo, the hebrew origin of the name Santiago.
-Viera. A typical galician surname that also means faith.
-Stella. That means start, as other name of the Way of St. James is the Way of the Stars.
- Luci. Because St. Lucia is the saint related with visual disabled people.
And, of course, in LIVING THE CAMINO, we also offer services for disabled people.
